Climate Change Impact Assessment and Adaptation Strategies for Rainfed Wheat in Contrasting Climatic Regions of Iran

چکیده

This is the first large-scale study to assess climate change impact on grain yield of rainfed wheat for three provinces contrasting climatic conditions (temperate, cold semi-arid, and hot arid) in Iran. Five integrative scenarios including +0.5°C temperature plus−5% precipitation, +1°C plus−10%, +1.5°C plus−15%, +2°C plus−20%, +2.5°C plus−25% were used evaluated. Nitrogen fertilizer shifting planting dates tested their suitability as adaptive strategies against changing climate. The reduced by −6.9 −44.8% temperate province Mazandaran −7.3 −54.4% arid Khuzestan but increased it +16.7% semi-arid Eastern Azarbaijan. additional application +15, +30, +45, +60 kg ha −1 nitrogen urea at sowing could not, most cases, compensate reductions under scenarios. Instead, late November, December, January enhanced +6 +70.6% all +94 +271% except scenario precipitation which led a reduction −85.5%. It concluded that production regions with climates can benefit from change, be impaired especially vulnerable like Khuzestan. Shifting date regarded an efficient yield-compensating environmentally friendly strategy regions.

Climate Change Impact on Some Factors Affecting Rainfed Wheat Growth (Case Study: Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province)

The aim of this study was to investigate the climate change impacts on some factors affecting rainfed wheat growth such as effective rainfall, planting date and length of growing season in four stations located in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province. Firstly, it is necessary to predict future (2046-2065) climatic conditions. For this purpose, the output of HADCM3 general circulation model was us...

Assessment of impact of climate change on potato and potential adaptation gains in the Indo-Gangetic Plains of India

India is the second largest producer of potato in the world. The Indo-Gangeticplains (IGP) is the main potato growing region accounting for almost 85% of the1.8 Mha under the crop in India where it is grown as an irrigated crop during thewinter season. Since IGP is in sub-tropical plains, duration of the thermally suitablewindow is the main determinant limiting yields. Hence the impact of clima...

assessment of the adaptation strategiesin rainfed chickpea in response to future climate change in zanjan province

introduction chickpea (cicer arietinum l.) is cultivated on alarge scale in arid and semiarid environments. terminal drought and heat stress, among other abiotic and biotic stresses, are the major constraints of yield in most regions of chickpea production. the study of the effects of climate change could help to develop adaptation strategies to promote and stabilize crop yield. this research w...
